Alan’s June Post!

It may be nearing the end of June, but there is still a lot more to happen this month. Earlier, in the month, our Exchange Youth Group- very ably led by Iain Glass- returned from Armenia, tired but happy. Many new friendships were made…. and are still being maintained through the wonders of social media sites.

Then our fundraising Ball at the Apex on the 7th June. A fantastic evening – a huge success – a whole lot of fun for all those who were there. Yes, there is another one planned for 2015.

The A.G.M. happened on the 17th, with an attendance approaching 40 people. Thanks, everyone.

Then the Ever Alerts Group trip to Turriff between the 19th and Sunday 22nd. Wonderful! And the month finishes with a fundraising Fete at The Settlement on Saturday 28th June………

Yes, an ultra-busy month- but July is even busier!! Wait for Alan’s next blog.

Over 50s

Every Thursday some of our women go out on the Open Door Bus. We go on trips to different towns, where they collect their weekly shopping. yet it is also a companionship meeting, too.

Recently we were invited by the Rotary Club to the Queens Hotel. Pensioners from other groups were included. We were treated to a lovely buffet, Tea, Coffee and a glass of Sherry. After finishing off our food we were treated to a film about Dundee.

A great time was had by all!

Thanks to all members of the Rotary Club.

Alan’s May Post!

For my “Monthly Blog Post”!!

Are you still reading my inputs? What about some replies….but be sensitive, please!

Over the past few weeks, the Settlement has been busy, but funding is, as ever, a big issue. It would be nice if agreed time schedules could be maintained! However…….. At the end of April, I went out to Ceparana to see how CJ is doing on his placement with Pubblica Assistenza. I am very pleased to report that he is doing well, and enjoying/learning from this experience. Thank you to all concerned. We are sourcing Raffle Prizes for our June 7th Charity Fundraising Ball at the Apex Hotel. The generosity and support is so pleasing. There are still a few tickets left for sale, if you would like to come along!

Soon, we start our 2014 Programme of International Youth Exchange Projects. The next “blog” will tell you more……..!!

Best Wishes,

Alan’s March/April Blog Post!

The March fundraising Jailbreak went really well. Teams made it to Paris, Amsterdam, London, Yorkshire, Inverness, Thurso and Ballymena. Sponsorship pledges topped the £6000 mark. This was a terrific effort – Well done, everyone. A good trip – much enjoyment – even well cooked “Sweet & Sour” – a great campfire…… all of this at the Jock Neish Centre on the 18th/20th April. Well done, T-Nite Youth Group. We now look forward to a very busy Summer & Autumn of Youth Exchange Projects – hosting and travelling……

Youth Health and Well Being Project

In the past few months the youths involved in this project have participated in many different activities.

G.W.N.N. Youth Group are in the process of creating a film and learning the Italian language in preparation for their exchange trip to Italy this summer. They have also been regularly visiting two nearby sheltered housing complexes to participate in social evenings with the elderly (i.e. Quiz nights, Bingo nights, Games nights and Music nights).

T-Night Youth Group’s programme has included: a fishing trip, a night at the observatory, a ghost walk, swimming, Sexual Health and Drug and Alcohol Education nights and a Volunteering night at the Salvation Army Soup Kitchen.

Youths of ‘1 Group’ have enjoyed a band night with ‘Fat Goth’ and trips to the ice skating, cinema, local pool/snooker club and Battlefield Live. They have also completed a Graffiti Project.

Youths from all three groups mentioned have achieved lots.

Jackie’s First Blog Post!

Hi my name is Jackie and I am a full-time youth worker here at Grey Lodge Settlement. My area of work is predominately based around a project called the 4xAAAA’s, which is an additional support service for secondary schools in the Dundee area. One of the groups on the project have recently been working on producing their own fun, interactive computer games. We hope Cameron (one of our trainees), will be able to add their completed games to our new website.
